Get all the details you need on our Tropical Yarn Crawl page.  You can also participate with the ongoing conversation and Q&A on the Tropical Yarn Crawl Ravelry Group.

Small Business Saturday at your Local Yarn Shop

Saturday, November 26

Hand Dyed Yarns at the Raging Wool Yarn shop

Thank you for supporting on Small Business Saturday! The Raging Wool yarn shop is definitely a small business, but with an enormous heart for fellow knitters, crocheters, weavers and hand-spinners.  At the Raging Wool we differentiate ourselves from the larger "big box" stores, such as Michaels, Jo-Ann Fabrics, Hobby Lobby and Walmart, by providing highly personalized one-on-one service, dozens of beginner and advanced classes, and an exquisite and very large collections of yarns, often hand-dyed by small "mom and pop" businesses across America as well.

Supporting the Raging Wool also helps dozens of similar sized businesses and individuals whose passion and livelihoods is making the highest quality yarns and fibers for your heirloom projects.

In return for your loyalty to us, we always provide fair trade pricing (never a penny more than Ravelry's MSRP), automatic $10 cash-back rebate for every $200 of lifetime purchases, unlimited one-on-one expert project assistance, free winding, WiFi, coffee, teas and one of the largest collections (now 100+ brands) of yarns in the USA.

For out-of-town customers, we also provide free shipping ($25 order minimum) on their purchases.  You also get one more thing at the Raging Wool Yarn shop that costs nothing but means everything - a place to visit and enjoy the company of fellow knitters, crocheters, weavers and spinners in a pleasant and safe environment.

Our newest Fall Yarns! Exclusive to South Florida!

Come in and check out some of the NEWEST yarns to come to South Florida!

The Yarns of Rhichard Devrieze LogoNew from The Yarns of Rhichard Devrieze!

Luxe Thede and Sirrocco Yarns

The Raging Wool has one of the largest Rhichard Devrieze Yarn Collections in America! New to the shop this season are Luxe, Thede, and Sirocco.

Luxe a Fingering Weight SW Merino blended with Silk and, be still my heart, Cashmere! Yummy!

Thede is a great sock yarn that's SW Merino and Nylon. Soft and durable.

Sirocco is our newest DK from Rhichard that's 100% SW Merino. Squishy and beautiful!

Round Mountain Fibers LogoWelcome Round Mountain Fibers to South Florida! We are so excited to be one of only 50 shops in North America to carry Round Mountain Fibers.

The current "Feathered Friends" collection is based on plumage colors of North American Birds in SW Merino. The colorways and semisolids are a reflection of their plumage, with each colorway named after a specific bird.

Round Mountain FibersWorked by themselves; paired with coordinating colors; or 4 skein collections: 3 skeins graduated greys and one skein a pop of colors, these are wonderful to work into fun projects.

The reflection of the birds' plumage, display vibrant colors that work well together in nature and in the yarns! One customer is using two 4 skein collections for an awesome skirt! The possibilities are endless!

MJ Yarns LogoWelcome MJ Yarns to South Florida too!  Jonathan brings us two fingering weight yarns - both with either a variegated or a spiral pattern. With names like Eye of Frog, Tongue of Bat, Scale of Dragon, they're spellbinding!

MJ Yans

Simply Sock Simple Sock is a great work horse superwash fingering weight yarn. The corriedale wool has a surprisingly soft hand and wonderful drape with the strength to stand up to hard wear.

Sophistisock is SW Merino, Nylon and Tencel blend for beautiful colors and squishies! Not only does this yarn have a fabulous hand, the tencel adds a level of sophistication to the color that is unmatched. Because the cellulose fiber doesn't take the dye, the tencel literally sparkles in the light and gives the color a fantastic heather.

Updated Colorways recently added!

Four-day Loom Weaving Workshop with Deborah Jarchow

Friday, September 30 through Monday, October 3

The Raging Wool hosted a 4-day loom weaving class weekend. It featured 3 different, day-long, weaving classes taught by nationally acclaimed weaving expert Deborah Jarchow. Deborah was onsite at the Raging Wool shop to teach each class, over the course of 4 days. Each day was filled with an awesome blend of her weaving instruction, weaving techniques and one-on-one assistance.  Of course, we also couldn't resist including some food, beverages, a discount on classes and materials, and of course a ton of fun, too!

Here's a few pictures of the great time we had! Thank you to all of South Florida's weavers who participated this year!   We look forward to more Deborah Jarchow weaving classes at the Raging Wool again.

World Wide Knit in Public Day

Saturday, June 18, 2016

Knit in Public, like at the Beach

Once a year, knitters, around the world, will stealthily coordinate with other knitters to boldly and un-shamelessly "Knit In Public" - on the same day.  But why, do you ask?

The answer: We want millions and millions of muggles (those that do not yet possess the magical gift of knitting), to see us in public - and be curious and unafraid enough to ask questions of you - the public knitter.

Your job, on the annual World Wide Knit in Public Day, is to help muggles by:

1) Answering questions about knitting and yarns,
2) De-mystifying why you enjoy this most ancient and magical art, and
3) Encouraging them to take a knitting class.

You will eventually inspire them to want learn to use specially-designed magical wands (disguised as 'knitting needles') to fabricate stunning works of (well, usually) wearable art.

If you are in South Florida, World Wide Knit in Public Day is even more of a challenge! Not only do you need to de-mystify what knitting is all about, you will have to JUSTIFY, to very skeptical muggles, why one would even bother to knit in the summertime! Only the most experienced tropical knitters will be able to explain how certain yarn fibers have amazingly magical properties that will make a knitted good perfectly cool for our hot and humid summer months!

At the Raging Wool, we encourage you to visit us and stock up on magic wands, magic fibers and, of course, classes and always free expert assistance from our professors and denizans.

Go forth and knit in public!  Share your World Wide Knit in Public Day achievements with us and all your muggle friends too!  World Wide Knit in Public Day was started in 2005 by Danielle Landes, learn more about the 'movement' on her international WWKIPDAY website.

Additionally, we saw an equal number of "daughters" who brought their mom's for the same great experiences. The span of generations, cultures and backgrounds of amongst our customers is so inspiring!

Most of all, we really want to thank our customers who made this our largest holiday celebration in the past 4 years! Special thanks also to Carol, Deb, Amanda and Jen for the great work pulling the party together.
