Mango Moon on the Mind
Mango Moon is such a fun company - their yarns are filled with fun beads, color, and texture. What's even better is that your purchase helps the Indonesian men and women who make these beautiful fibers, by helping to provide health care, shelter and education for their families. This week, we're looking at four warm-weather worthy varieties from Mango Moon :
Mantra (showin in Purple Turquoise at left) is an aran weight cotton and rayon blend knitting and crochet yarn in Mango Moon's recycled yarn family. With the comfort of cotton and the soft, stretchy Capelli, Mantra is perfect for everyday wear. Mantra features great texture, and requires a littlle hand-washing love to look its best.
Pattern Match-ups: With its slightly nubby texture, we think the Amore Ponshawl, complete with fun fringe, would be a great fit for Mantra.(knit)
Zing String is a knitting and crochet thread with hand-tied beads and stones from Mango Moon. Need a little spice for your next project? Zing String is perfect. Beads and stones are hand-tied onto a color-coordinated cotton thread and then wrapped around a piece of real bamboo for easy unwinding. Zing String is meant to be combined with other yarns, so get creative and mix and match the beautiful colors of Zing String with any of your favorite Mango Moon yarns.
Chakra (shown in Mellow-Yellow at left) is a DK weight cotton and rayon blend knitting and crochet yarn in true Mango Moon beaded fashion. Chakra features a hand-tied beaded viscose yarn plied with a strand of springy Capelli, a coordinating strand of cotton, and a strand of individually hand-tied beads and stones. The stones and beads are individually hand tied for stability. For a worsted weight version of this yarn, consider Legong, below.
Legong (shown in Red/Gold at left) is a worsted weight cotton and rayon blend knitting and crochet yarn that is the bigger sister to Chakra (mentioned above), featuring the same gorgeous, hand-tied beaded viscose yarn plied with a strand of their springy Capelli, a coordinating strand of cotton, and a strand of individually hand-tied beads. The Capelli gives the yarn stretch, the cotton provides softness and body, but the beads make this yarn a stunner.
- (knit) The New Oaklet Shawl is a great lacy shawl that would look amazing with a strand of Zing String or even Chakra (if knit with a thicker main-color yarn) added into the mix. Keep it on the edges for a special touch, or run the beaded accent yarns throughout for a weightier shawl.
- (crochet) The Gently Reminisce Wrap is a great crochet project -- and adding in Chakra or Legong would make it surely stand out.
- (crochet) The Warm Shore cowl (146-33) pattern from DROPS design is a sweet little cotton cowl that screams for some of Mango Moon's fun beaded yarn. Chakra is perfect - for the whole cowl, or for an added-in touch in whatever round you wish!
